I am originally from Carter County, and to say that I grew up in a modest home would be an understatement. Neither of my parents were given the opportunity to complete high school, but they worked tirelessly throughout their entire lives to provide for their family. Finances were extremely limited, but love was abundant. My parents demonstrated values such as respect for others, hard work, and discipline in our home. They understood the importance of education and were committed to making sure their children would be given the opportunity to excel.

I graduated as class valedictorian from Elizabethton High School and was an Honors graduate from Milligan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. The investment from educators, coaches, my parents, and many others enabled me to accomplish my goals.

My involvement with KCS began as a Kindergarten homeroom mom. I continued to serve in that capacity for eleven lightning-fast years. I volunteered as a tutor and fulfilled leadership positions in PTA & PTO organizations at the elementary-, middle-, and high-school levels. More recently, I’ve served in booster club leadership for cheer, athletics, band and the Spirit Shakers.

My reason for involvement has always been simple; I love the kids and want to do anything I can to help them achieve their potential.

After eighteen unforgettable years, the last of my three children officially “graduated” out of the Kingsport City Schools system in 2020. Words cannot sufficiently convey the gratitude that Jon and I hold for the quality education our three children received in Kingsport. Countless people invested in them to provide a truly student-focused, world-class education. Although each of our kids traveled different paths on their journey to graduation, all of them walked away with a lifetime of memories to cherish.

I want to continue to give back to our community—a community that has given so much to and for our family.

Rich in a century-plus tradition of excellence, our school system recorded a historic number of accomplishments over the past five years.

But until every student reads proficiently, each high-schooler earns a diploma, and 100% of KCS graduates feel confident and prepared for "life after the classroom," there is still work to be done.

We all know there are significant challenges facing our education community still yet.

As a member of the Board, I will continue to advocate relentlessly for students, parents, and educators. Working as One Tribe, KCS can continue its aspiration to be the pinnacle of excellence in education — not just in our state, but across the nation and the world.

I am committed to providing pathways to the best future possible for ALL students.

I would be so very honored to have your vote. Thank you in advance for your encouragement, your prayers, and your support!

COMMITTED TO KINGSPORT!
